Job Description

The RN is responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation. The RN is responsible for directing, coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing practices.

The RN is responsible for overseeing the health and medical care of patients at MUSC Health – Marion Medical Center. The primary emphasis of the position is to ensure each patient’s medical, nutritional, and emotional needs are met. The nurse will utilize his/her knowledge of growth and development, cultural, religious and ethnic differences in providing appropriate care to the patient as well as in creating an ongoing plan of care for the patient. 

The RN collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes for the scheduled shift and smooth transition to the next shift. The RN is expected to be able to perform duties of unit secretary and nurse aides as defined in respective job descriptions and participates in performance improvement activities.

Education:

Graduate of a School of Professional Nursing

Experience

Previous hospital experience preferred.

Licenses/Certificates:

Current Registered Nurse license issued by the LLR Board of Nursing for South Carolina or Compact Licensure Agreement.

Current certification in BLS and to be maintained biannually.

(Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs. of force is needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs. of force is required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects, depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (Continuous) Ability to work rotating shifts. (Frequent) Ability to work overtime as required. (Frequent) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous) (Selected Positions) *Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. (Continuous) *(Selected Positions) *Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
